Choosing braces colors as an adult.

So as adults, do most of you get subdued colors, or do you not really care? I think I would like to get ceramics (especially if I'll be wearing braces during my big wedding, ugh), but I kind of also want to just go crazy.

When I first started, my tech just assumed I'd want something to blend in... I had silver ligs for the first 3 months (and once by choice since then). But metal brackets are not subdued, so I finally asked what colors they had. She was surprised, but is probably enjoying it as much as I do. The turquoise I have going now is pretty loud. My wife laughed when I grinned big, but no one else has said a thing. And I really don't care if they do.
But if you'd told me at the beginning of treatment that I'd have colors, I'd have told you to pound sand.
Things change.
I'm 43. And definitely not a subdued kind of person.

I'm 26 and I got my braces on today. I went with bright orange & green. My ortho was telling me I was cool. He said he liked the fact that I went with bright colors from the start. I plan on trying every color possible.

Hello Moli,
good to know that you are starting this wonderful journey with us all...

I know that i have ceramics on top and went with the tooth coloured ligs cause the braces were a big change for me...but I am feeling that after a couple of months I might go a little crazy...like the tourquoise or something....why not??
But I think that many of us start out subdued and then get wild and crazy as we become more comfortable with our new identities....just my take!
Take care..

I started out with colors from the get go! It's very fun. Check out my www and see the different colors. I just recently got Halloween colors--orange and black. I'd like to do the rainbow whenever I don't have to have to have powerchains on. My next adjustment is Nov. 17 and im going for red and green.

Wow, lots of replies! I was thinking of doing all red (my favorite color) or red and black. I know that nobody close to me is going to care (my friends would actually probably expect me to go crazy with the colors), and I don't have to worry about my job caring, either (being military I wear the same uniform every day, so as long as I'm within regulations it's all good). I have a friend who got braces at 23, and I know his were metal, but I don't think he ever did colors since he's a freelance photographer's assistant and has job interviews all the time.

Why not go all red, make a statement.

I am a MATURE adult...only 57...and I got my front braces last Friday. I went with the light blue ligs....I figured, what the heck...You're only young once...

I get any old color since I don't care. Right now I'm wearing metallic purple, it's just not as bright as I wanted it to be though

For me...it's gotta be ceramic on top. For bottom, it's metal because it's not that visible.
oops you mentioned wedding day. I still have time for that. Hopefully i will have braces removed by then...but will have retainers. I am surely gonna take retainers out on my big day!

well it looks like I am in the minority here but I have acrylics top and bottom..for now I have wire ties and will never get color..absolutely no inerest in that..will get clear ligs next adjustment..friends say they are barely noticeable and no big deal...and I'd like to keep it that way...but if i was 13 again then i would probably be thinking differently:)..
.love that there is such a creative, fun loving bunch on archwired!

Moli... May as well put a little color in your world! It's fun and makes the whole process more fun!
Donnamac: so do you like the light blue ligs? I was thinking of getting them at Tuesdays appt! I've had the bright pink, I've had teal, and I've had purple so far and I think the light blue sounds nice and feminine!

I've had colors from day one. They're fun. I figure why the heck not. My kids think they're great and they've helped pick out some of my lig colors for me.
It must be a rarity for an adult in my ortho's office to go with colors though, because I always get a comment on my decision to go with colors. The assistants just love it when adults pick colors.
My next adjustment is on Thursday when I will be going with teal and maroon ligs. Avs colors, baby!
If you're a sports fan and look at it from team color perspectives, there's no limit to the fun you can have!

Darn it.. now i'm almost wishing i'd be getting ligs with my braces so I could get canucks colors! (i'm getting the self-ligatating type.) Blue and red would look awesome, especially around playoff time! or blue and green, to match my retro jersey...
