I just pulled an old spacer from way up inside my gum, wedged between two banded molars. It's been sore and bleeding for a while, but I couldn't find anything in there. I am good about flossing and brushing, but this would bleed every time. I just went to the dentist for a cleaning this week, and also to my ortho for routine pano x rays and an adjustment. Nobody said anything about it. I actually didn't mention it at my appointments because it wasn't bad and it was not on my mind at the time.
I finally went in there with a dental tool and I pulled something out of there, finally. It was bleached white (it was blue when they put them in), and at first I thought "uh oh, this is a piece of a tooth or even a bone" but it didn't hurt so I hooked it and pulled it out. It was a spacer.
WOW. Nobody saw anything on the x ray or while cleaning. Weird! I am relieved that its out. Has this happened to anyone else? I am going to ask to see my pano x ray when I go to the ortho next to see if I can spot it up there.

As a matter of fact; yes! It was in there for a while; the ortho assistants assumed it fell out. 6-8 weeks later I felt something odd and started with a piece of dental floss. Out popped a spacer. Guess it didnt fall out.
Round 3 (lifetime) Damon stainless applied 3/16/20 (after 4 weeks attempting invisalign) On for about 18 months
Night time elastics with invisalign retainers; still...
Double jaw surgery was 6/18/15...
Orthodontics never really ends...
I'm emphatically against extraction orthodontics!
