Advice needed (Rapid Palate Expander)

#1 Post by ShakinAllOver »

Hi all,

Newbie here from the UK! I've had a removable RPE for a month now and at first it was OK (turning it twice a week), but now the ortho has asked that I turn it every day! Now, the problem isn't the pain or anything like that, but it's the fact that I have to remove it to turn it, and then somehow try and get it back in my mouth! It's actually nigh on impossible to do that and I really don't know what to do; I'm nearing the end of my tether with it and wish it was just permanent and cemented to my teeth!

Has anyone else had this problem with a removable RPE? I'm thinking that if I can't get it back in my mouth, then maybe I'm just not ready for that stage yet?? I have turned it back and it fits then, but feels really tight...

Confused!

Thanks for reading; any advice welcome :) x

Is turning the screw while the appliance is in your mouth not an option? The few models I have seen in person, you're still able to (and expected to) turn the screw while the thing is in your mouth.

Turning once per day sounds excessive to me. I suggest you ask your ortho to review.
Sectional brace with Damon clear brackets fitted to front 6 upper teeth 3 January 2012
Brackets added to premolars 2 April 2012
Estimated treatment time originally 6-9 months
. Brace removed on 22 July 2013 after 18 months and 19 days
Now enjoying bonded upper retainer plus part time essix/hawley( I have both)
