Did your bite regress after elastics discontinued?

#1 Post by EmilyTravels »

After wearing elastics for just under six months, at my adjustment several days ago my orthodontist told me not to wear them any longer.

I started with an overjet and slightly open bite on the right side. I wore Class 2 elastics alternating with triangles for the open bite 24 hours a day for almost six months. Started with medium weight and moved to heavy weight the last six weeks or so. My bite improved so much with the elastics, as well as my midline.

I love not having to wear elastics any more, but I am scared that my bite will regress without them.

What was your experience after discontinuing elastics. Did your bite stay the same or regress?

Thanks!

I wore class 3 elastics for 5 months, as well as night time box elastic to close an anterior open bite for 3 months...and so far I haven’t noticed my bite regress in the 7 months that I’ve been without those specific elastics.
Braced: April 07, 2017
Debraced: February 08, 2019
Sentence: 18-24 months
Actual time in braces: 22 months and 1 day
Reason: Straighten teeth, correct crossbite and edge-to-edge bite

Good to know, thanks Mpkh.

I've only been without elastics for a week, but so far, so good. It is really nice not having to wear them. :D
