Blood Clotting for Extractions

#1 Post by weakjawmcgraw »

Thank you everyone who responded to my last post! It really helped. Now, I’m post extractions (4 premolars) and I’m wondering about bleeding? My extraction sites look like they’ve clotted already, but when I’ve been changing gauze, there’s always some blood there. I’m now almost 6 hours post-extraction and on my last thing of gauze. After this, should I just not worry about the gauze / minor bleeding, or should have someone to pick up some / use a tea bag or something until it stops bleeding entirely.

My 4 first bicuspids had been extracted before treatment too as I had bimax protrusion. My dentist put some clove to make the bleeding disappear completly. But don't worry if you have minor bleeding until one day after the extractions.

Thanks! That was a relief to hear! I do have one more question, though! I’ve stopped bleeding but now my blood clots have a white film on them. Is this normal?? (I assumed because I’ve had other scabs that have done this, but I thought I’d ask!)

Yes, as far as I have heard/read/researched that is scar tissue and should *not* be removed!

Correct. It may ooze a small amount (drops) of yellowish clear fluid -- not pus -- for a few days as well. All normal.

djspeece, I wonder why dentists won't tell you that, by the way. At least I was never informed!

Hard to say, probably most of them never had an extraction and don't realize it, or maybe not that into patient education.
