What are power chains used for other than closing gaps?

I had power chains put on today on the top and bottom 6 teeth. There are gaps to close at the bottom but not the top, in fact the top still aren't all lined up.
So why would they put a powerchain on the top?

Power chains can also be used to hold teeth together to prevent space from opening, change the tip of the teeth, and rotate specific teeth. If you have questions about what is going on with your treatment, it might be something to bring up with your doctor. Hope that was helpful!

I had a big gap open on my top teeth so at last appointment ortho put power chain on the top and then looked at the assistant and said well might as well put one on the bottom too so they match. I was like really? Thanks. LOL All good though. Red on top Green on Bottom... its Xmas time...
