Second time braces, worst decision.

#1 Post by silverr11 »

Hi everyone,
So i've had braces when i was 15, had so much crowding but cant really remember how my experience was. I didnt stick to my retainers and had all of my wisdom teeth come out to push everything and my teeth kind of relapsed. NOT bad enough to get the braces again but sadly i went for it. I am 26 now. i wasnt 100% convinced about getting them but got them anyways before i became older and then regret not having them sooner.

Everything was going smoothly, fixed my crossbite which led to an open bite at the front.... this is where my nightmare started :) had my box elastics at the front, within A WEEK i noticed that my front teeth looked bigger, thats when i found out about recession... went straight to my ortho which confirmed that my teeth were at least half an mm longer.
I went to atleast 7 other doctors and some had different opinions than the rest
first one asked me to remove my braces immediately and have a retainer to stabelize my teeth and then see what happens within 3 months.
the 3 next told me i was fine because no roots have showed yet.
the next one said that i needed a graft on one tooth only.
the next said i was fine and since then im GOING CRAZY.
im sure i am noticing more recession these days
last session i absolutely refused to use more elastics and im just hoping that this isnt a bad decision.
more to that, discovered i had 2 root resorption on my two front lateral incisors, same ones where i needed a graft. the first doctor said that i might have to lose them.
i have made 7 xrays in only 3 days and im worried.

more to that, had molar buildups in the beginning and it resulted to gum flaps near my wisdom teeth and two asked me to extract all 4 :@

noticing more black triangles
and just thinking about all of this is CONSUMING ME. i cant deal with all of this and im just super worried about getting the gum graft and it failing :(
i have to work and i have a toddler to take care of and i cant be ready for some down time. ugh

whats driving me MAD is that i went for minor adjusments and now i have so many problems that i could have just avoided by not having braces again :( i swear my teeth were not that bad at all.

will the recession stop when i remove my braces?
is having this much xrays really bad ?
currently im in my finishing stages, a few months to go but i just cant wait, so anxious and scared that things will get worse along the way :(

If you had a crossbite to begin with, then it's not considered a minor adjustment. Having a bite that is not functional can wear and damage teeth, lead to gum recession and tmj problems in the long run.

7 xrays in 3 days is excessive. What kind of xrays were they? Are they of the same shots? Or the periapical ones where they take different shots of different teeth? Otherwise, I don't see a reason why you cannot use the xrays already taken the first time for consultation with different dentists.

After getting the braces off, gum recession will continue to happen as we age, but probably not at a alarming rate as what you are facing now during ortho treatment.

If the root resorption of the lateral incisors were due to your ortho treatment, the resorption will stop once no more ortho forces are applied with it. There are case studies of people who experienced root resorption with braces go on to have no problems with those teeth even decades after treatment has ended.

Side note to the wisdom teeth. If there isn't enough space for them to exist properly in your mouth, you might really want to consider extracting them. I didn't get them out because they weren't causing me problems. It was only when I had my consultation with my ortho, did he recommend I get them out as they were damaging the 2nd molars. Turns out, he was right. One of the wisdom tooth had caused a small decay in the root of my 2nd molar. I managed to get that cleaned out, and got a filling. Now 5 months later, I'm getting extreme sensitivity with this tooth and long story short, we are waiting on this tooth to see if the nerve is indeed dying or if it will survive. If it dies, I would need a root canal, but since the cavity was on the root, there is a very high chance I will have to extract it as the structural integrity of the tooth would have been too compromised.

I've got 2 panoramic xrays done with my ortho, the first wasnt taken right so they had to re-do it.
1 panoramic xray done with a periodentist in another clinic, forgot to ask the first clinic for a copy

2 days later, had another panoramic xray done because the doctor REFUSED to take a look at the copy i had.
and then 3 bite wing xrays to see if i had any infections with the root.
so 4 panoramic and 3 bite wings ( the small ones )
i paniced right after but they assured me it was fine. but im still scared.

the root resorption probably happened during my first braces treatment because it seems inactive during the 4 month treatment ive had, still scared it they might get affected and start the resorption again. one perio told me ill have to wait 6-8 months after braces and see if theyre active or not

as for my wisom teeth, ill just stick with them and consult more as long as theyre not affectong my teeth
i already have too many things to worry about and extraction cant be one of them now :o
