Im freeeee! Now a question about mRetainers..

#1 Post by stellarxoxo »

Hi friends!

I was just de-braced on Wednesday (woohoo!). I have a bonded retainer on both the top and bottom and was also given this aweful essix retainer that im supposed to wear for 2 weeks straight and then every night for life. Just curious as to why i have to wear the essix on top of the bonded retainer? This thing is brutal. Are you not supposed to be able to have your teeth touch with this thing? Is it supposed to hurt because my back molars are tender with it on, and is painful taking out.
im assuming that they dont want to take the chance of the upper ones moving?
Thank you!

P.s here is my finished product! They feel and look so weird to me!

Great result. I can't answer for sure about the need for the Essix but I suspect your impression (pardon the pun) is correct, the ortho wants to makes sure nothing moves, and apparently the bonded retainer is not sufficient. I just wonder why he just didn't put you in an Essix from the get-go if you are going to have to wear it forever. Best of luck to you. I've been debraced for nearly a year and am loving life with my Vivera retainer, which at this point I wear only at night. I have what I think is my last ever ortho appointment next week, to check and make sure everything is good to go. Four lovely years since initial bracing. It has been a very interesting and in some personal ways a very life-changing experience. Best of luck to you!

I love my Essix retainers. Never had a problem with them.
