advise needed about power chain

#1 Post by simbah »

Hi every1 first of all i am thankfull for the people who made this forum possible so 1 can get help or advise other with his/her own expierince.

My wife is 28 years old and since 2 years she has braces. She is is the final stages and the upper teeth is done and she uses now retainer for the next 1 year...

The lower teeth were in the last stages and just few more months needed for powerchain and then she was going to get retainer... but now the power chain broke but she can go to her dentiest after 8 weeks because she is on foreign trip. She is very nervous and scared so she called me and i did start to search about it and came on this forum. I hope i can get some advise.

Which damage can be caused if the broken power chain is not repaired now but after 8 weeks? Is all the progress from the last 2 years lost? Will the teeths like 2 years back like it started? I really don't know anything so someone can say a few usefull words so i can tell her what she can expect after 8 weeks when she is abl to repair her power chain.

Hello simbah, I am new here and am not very knowledgeable about power chains.

I do think the best person to ask advice from is yor wife's orthodontist. If she can, she could go to an orthodontist in the foreign country she is in if she is really worried.

Personally, I do not think going 8 weeks without the poeer chain will undo 2 years of work, but I think there will definitely be some setbacks...

Sorry that this had to happen to her while she is away :(
I hope you two find a solution... good luck! :)

Thanks for your quick replay. I'll consider it and will tell her this.

Also anyone else who has few words to say about this situation? It will be very appreciable as she is worried about the consequences.

There might be some space that opens where the power chain is broken, but for the most part she'll be ok. After several weeks the powerchain will have lost most of it's stretch anyway...

Is she traveling in a part of the world that has orthodontic care? If she is, she might be able to find a local ortho and replace her powerchain. Probably for a minimal fee; if any. If you call her orthodontist and tell them her situation, they might even know some folks in her area and be able to point her in the right direction. Another option could be to get a length of powerchain from her orthodontist and mail it to her. She might be able to put it on herself if she takes her time.
Round 3 (lifetime) Damon stainless applied 3/16/20 (after 4 weeks attempting invisalign) On for about 18 months
Night time elastics with invisalign retainers; still...
Double jaw surgery was 6/18/15...
Orthodontics never really ends...
I'm emphatically against extraction orthodontics!
