Teeth after 8 weeks

#1 Post by dannyc77 »

Hi all
I have had a brace on my uppers for 8 weeks, it feels like my teeth have moved a lot and look better already. So I thought I'd post before and after so far pics to encourage anyone else thinking about doing this. I'm nearly 40 years old, no braces before this. Here's what they used to look like

Here are some now after 8 weeks, sorry the photos are so large I'm not sure how to make them smaller!

I feel like they have moved a lot in a short space of time?!

That is a very significant change already, congratulations!

Have you noticed people noticing, or has it been just business as usual?

Some have noticed the brace but its just been one comment then they move on generally (or if they are saying more they don't say it to me). In terms of the teeth being straighter my wife has really noticed, and its made her think about doing something about her very slightly crooked top teeth. The difference is she would have to pay for her treatment but I am fortunately having this on the NHS in the UK. I'm actually amazed by the whole process of the teeth actually moving

I was referred by my dentist, and they basically took a load of measurements and x rays and said my teeth were in poor shape and met the guidelines for treatment if I wanted it. They said if I just straightened my uppers they would not be able to do it and I would have to pay as that would be cosmetic only. I've got a traumatic deep overbite and lots of other things were written about my face which was great! I don't think its that bad personally! I was also asked if I had ever had braces I wonder if that had any part to play, having never had them on the NHS before? There is often a orthodontics student when I attend my appointments so maybe another reason. Obviously only metal traintracks no clear braces or Invisalign on the NHS

The teeth at the moment look like they are moving every day, I suppose they are. In the last couple of weeks there is a little gap appearing from the top of the front two teeth that slowly gets bigger downwards every other day. I think its OK?!

Here is a pic today , just over 11 weeks now. Gap looking pretty big between front two teeth.... nothing on bottom teeth yet. Mayb next visit tads and a sectional brace. Unless I agree to jaw surgery ...... then differeent plan. I'm concerned about permanent numbness....apparently I
have short vertical proportions in the lower part of my face....?!

They're moving fast!!!! How often are your appointments? I am finding as it's NHS sometimes it can be 7 weeks other times it can be 12-13 weeks which then I worry the brace will over compensate xx

My appointments are every 7 weeks. I'm wondering if they are moving too fast as I've heard that can be bad for their roots, I also think they will start to slow down as they begin to all align properly

Don't worry. They will slow down eventually, getting the teeth straight is easy. Making sure that every tooth aligns perfectly with the other teeth for a correct bite is what takes the most time.

That's crazy, I would have expected that amount of improvement to take more than twice that long. Looking great

Wow ... they're going great. I've had metal braces 9 weeks and I too are pleased with results. The dreaded gaps (black triangles appearing) but my dentist filling teeth slightly down to make the gap smaller each visit. Like others say early days are when you get most movement; it will slow down. Mine have moved as much as yours too. Keep us posted
