Generally, how many sets of wires are used?

#1 Post by stellarxoxo »

Curious as to how many sets of wires are used? I'm going tomorrow for my 3rd set (been braced almost 9 MONTHS now). I was initially given an 18-22 month sentence. I'm curious if my treatment time will go down since my teeth have already straightened out?

Thanks!

Totally depends on your particular teeth and treatment plan and how your teeth respond to treatment. I've had a finishing wire in my lowers for forever because they just didn't need as much work. I thin he'll have to do a new one in another appointment or so because it's not long enough any more to reach the two new brackets on my back molars. There's a starter wire under the regular one for now, when things line up back there I assume he'll switch to a new single wire again and he'll just have to put identical finishing bends in the new one.
Braces for 18 months/4 days.

I had damon braces and had a new wire every adjustment until I got onto my final stainless steel wire which I had for about 3 adjustments and which was bent differently each time. So about 10 wires in total.

Jem
Sectional brace with Damon clear brackets fitted to front 6 upper teeth 3 January 2012
Brackets added to premolars 2 April 2012
Estimated treatment time originally 6-9 months
. Brace removed on 22 July 2013 after 18 months and 19 days
Now enjoying bonded upper retainer plus part time essix/hawley( I have both)

Just went for my adjustment. I have elastics now and the rectangular archwires now, but they said my next appt could be my final wire. I am so thrilled!
