Underbite and IPR?

#1 Post by sneed1o1 »

Hey to all! I'm currently in my second round of braces and I have a question concerning interproximal reduction (IPR).

Just a brief history:

My first round of braces (2011-2012) was to close spacing (gaps) in between my teeth on top and bottom. Over the past few years, I have developed a slight anterior open bite with my lower teeth protruding just past my top teeth (see pics below). I can't remember how many mm the open bite is between the top and bottom (<2mm?) I've started another topic to track the progress. My orthodontist suggested IPR, possible TAD placement depending on how my progress looks like over the course of treatment. I really would like to avoid the TADs, as I don't believe my teeth are that far apart to go to these measures. Can anyone give me feedback on the success of IPR in aiding to correct an overjet? Will it allow my teeth to be pushed back far enough so that I can finally have a slight overbite? I'm not too familiar with the types of wires and band positioning to know how these would also aid in pushing my teeth back.

IPR and those elastics should help you with the underbite tendency. Looks like the anterior open bite is working nicely as well. Nice change thus far!
