Nervous about getting braces

#1 Post by oldperson »

I'm getting braces in a few weeks, and I feel rather nervous about it. I'm not scared of the pain or getting them on etc. But basically how I will look. Any advice about how to not feel anxious or nervous about getting them.

Thanks for any help

Um, you've already started another thread on this topic to which several of us have replied.

I dont really know how to avoid feeling awkward with the braces. Just try to look your best in other aspects maybe. Remember that there will be a beautiful end result so have that keep you going even on the bad days. In the mean time do things to distract yourself and deal with the time. Read books, maybe go shopping and treat yourself to some good food.

I try to stay in alot even though its boring honestly but i go out for work and to run errands. But i know i wont look awkward forever! Its ok. We can do this. 8)

I myself don't worry about how braces make me look, I'm just focused on the progress happening and the end result.
Lots of crimes here

1. The upper molars bite too far ahead of the lower molars

2. Missing teeth #s 9, 14, and, 29

3. Open bite

4. Upper midline left of center

5. Lower midline right of center

6. Upper and lower teeth not straight

Sentence - 24 months, turned to 27 month.

Braces removed since 11/06/17

I was concerned about the way I would look in braces too, but once I got them I realized that I was the only one who really cared and that in the end it's worth it

Seriously? Nobody cares. The worst thing you can do is try to hide them with your hand or by not smiling. And if you're that concerned ask your Ortho about ceramic brackets. It will all be good. :D

Yeah no one cares. Like, no one. And when you come across another old(er) person with braces, you give a wink, a nod, and you do the secret handshake.

Just kidding! There's no secret handshake -- that I'm aware of, at least. But there is a certain comradery amongst us. At the end of the day, though, no one else cares. We're the only ones who care.
