Healthy Recipes

#1 Post by juliets »

Hello all

Does anyone have a link / recommendations for healthy recipes for soft foods

I am getting fed up with mashed potatoes and blended foods and would love some ideas (I had my 4 large molars extracted and can't chew as my bite isn't aligned)

Also ideas for where to get protein would be great - I want to try to cut back on the carbs!

Thanks

You could try looking up cookbooks for dysphagia. I realize this is a swallowing disorder, but often times the recipes are super nutritious and easy to chew because they're designed for people who have trouble swallowing.

Have you tried protein shakes? Some of the pre-made ones are actually quite nice and are good at suppressing appetite.

I have been working out more recently (in addition to getting Invisalign), and so although I can chew OK, I've been eating a lot of smoothies. Here is what I recommend for tasty and filling smoothies with lots of protein:

-Get a good protein powder (I use the NOW foods whey protein one, which is not noticeable when blended into a smoothie)

-Add some Greek yogurt or kefir and/or cottage cheese

-Add a scoop of flax seeds (if you have a strong blender like a VitaMix you can add these whole, otherwise you can buy preground flax seeds so your smoothie isn't grainy) and/or chia seeds (pre-soak for a minute in your smoothie liquid if you don't have a strong blender for smoother consistency) - Walmart sells chia and flax if you're not familiar with them

-Find some tasty smoothie recipes. Here are a few ones that I've made that have all turned out really well. I always add a scoop of protein powder plus flax/chia to boost the nutrition:

Also here are a few really tasty blended soups that I've made in the past:
