Obsessive dental hygiene

#1 Post by Lauradarlin »

So prior to getting my braces I was pretty standard when it came to oral hygiene, brushed my teeth twice a day and used mouth wash. Since getting my braces on I've become obsessed with cleaning my teeth! I don't work in the same place all the time and often grab lunch on the go which has led to me cleaning my teeth in quite a few public conveniences and getting a multitude of dodgy looks! Can't say I've ever been horrified by someone cleaning their teeth but hey ho each to their own!

Wondering if this will calm down or if I'll be obsessed for the whole of my treatment time? Must say it's doing wonders for my snacking habits as I'm mainly trying to eat only at home!

What do you consider obsessive?

I pretty much run off to clean my teeth if I've put anything other than water in my mouth!

At first I was super cautious about cleaning my teeth immediately after eating, and I avoided sugary drinks since I didn't want to have to brush after just drinking. After a few months i got more lax about this! Now I can find myself several hours after eating (especially at night) and realize I haven't brushed my teeth yet. I always make sure I don't have food stuck in my braces, though. At first I thought the waterpik was unnecessary since I was SO meticulous about my teeth, but the past few months it's been extremely helpful.
•Braces placed August 14, 2014
•Deband November 11, 2015
•Permanent retainer top and bottom
•Essix retainers top and bottom 16 hr/day for a year and then nightly afterwards.
