i want my S back

#1 Post by snugglepuss »

today my ortho put braces on my lower teeth , and during the process i hear him say: we don t have a choice , and NOW i have two white bulges behind my front teeth and a lisp . a bloody lisp . nobody talks about lisps , about how they are unexpected and how you end up broken in the garden chair , crying your heart out , and trying as much as you can to get the letter S out of your mouth , but you can t , so you cry harder , and you take the tramway to your uni , cuz of course you still have to go . crying of course .
how do i deal with ... just how , is there any way to speak normally with two white bulges behind your front teeth ?
i swear , i never knew so many words have S's in them .
can i just break them off ? are they that necessary , cuz i don t think so.

From what I understand they are necessary to protect you top teeth from the lower braces. I think they are used if you have an overbite.

A lot of people on this website have them though so hopefully they can give you some tips on how to best cope.

I imagine with some practice you'll be able to get your S back and no one with know. You'll probably have to focus on making the sound, perhaps by overdoing it until you find the right combination. I know you are distressed but give it a few days.

i am getting more and more angry , i swear i just tried breaking them off and they won t .
i am pretty sure that we can get the brackets on my lower teeth a bit lower as they are positioned fairly high on the teeth , that way we can stop the top and lower teeth from touching,or at least reduce the touching , i just don t know if i should wait until next week to talk to him as i already have an appointment or call to go tomorrow , cause this is killing me inside , i didn t even want braces on my lower teeth !
this is just .. whatever.

Ain't braces fun? Hang in there. Wait until your appointment. You have a long row to hoe, and lots of adjustments, trials, and tribulations. You never really know what it's going to be like going in to the whole braces thing. It's always something. Trust in your ortho.

Count me in on team "hang in there." If you didn't know that life with braces would take a bit of adjusting to, you know now! Stay focused on the positive -- think about the reasons you got braces, the great results you're hoping for, and how hard you had to work to save up the money to do this.

Call a friend to come over and split a half gallon container of ice cream (or a bottle of wine) with you tonight!
