Ceramic Braces, Please Help

Hi there,

I have long been conscious of my teeth, whilst terribly anxious of the dentist/orthodontist. I finally brought myself to going to get a consultation on what could be done with my teeth the other week. I have around a 9mm overjet and a gap in my front two teeth. It's necessary for me to have Ceramic braces because if I have full metal braces I simply won't get them done. Regardless, I was quoted just short of £6k (over $9k) for the full 18month treatment. This was a lot more money than I was expecting, as I was prepared for really 3.5-4k. I was just wondering, is this a 'standard' price because as mentioned, it's a lot more than I expected. I've seen people get ceramic braces for £3k.

I am hugely fond of the place I went already, they are very professional and friendly and I've always recommended them to all my scared of the dentist friends, but this price is definitely more than I can really afford right now.

I'd really really appreciate any input.

Honestly...that sounds high!! I live in Florida where everything is more expensive and I paid 7200 with acceledent same 18 months treatment.. Sounds like you need to go to three or four consultations before you make a decision :-)

I'm in NYC and I paid $7,600 for 18 months of ceramic braces. Hope that helps and good luck.

I'm guessing since you wrote " £6k (over $9k)", you're not in the US....I paid $7k for my ceramic on top and metal on bottom. That does seem a bit high but you have to take into consideration the expertise of the ortho, the complexity of the case etc.

I'm in the US and my cost was similar to the others, above. The price you were quoted seems very high to me unless they serve drinks prior to adjustments, and in that case I'd go with them  . In all seriousness though, I'd recommend that you at least have a frank conversation with the ortho and see if they are willing to come down in price. All they can say is no. And then you'll need to get some other consultations, and I'm guessing you'll find another provider that you will like at least as much. Best of luck to you.

Be sure to visit multiple Orthodontists for multiple estimates. Also feel free to negotiate. Tell them what you can afford, see if they will do it for you. Often if they are trying to work on their patient count you can get them to come down.

Why the negativity about metal? Ceramic is noticeable also, just not at a distance.

I have ceramic braces on both top and bottom teeth. I am from cape town, south africa where our currency isn't as strong as yours - my braces are costing me 30 000 rand, which converts to 2317 dollars or 2097 euro's. Seems much much less than your quote - i'd say go for more consultations :)

I agree with everyone else. Get a few more quotes and you'll know where you stand then. If they're all similar then it's obviously something to do with your particular case.
