aching teeth

#1 Post by cariad1 »

Hi All

Im nearly two years into my treatment now at the ripe old age of 36! I have had achy teeth on and off through my treatment especially after an adjustment, however, I was wondering if anyone else found that their teeth also ache when coming up to an adjustment?

I'm due another one in a week or so after a pretty long period as my orthodontist has been away and I have noticed that a few of my teeth on the side feel so achy and painful to bite, Almost as if I have already had an adjustment done!

So really just wondering whether this was normal and if anyone else has experienced this?

Thank you xx

I experience achy teeth on and off. From what I've read on this forum, it's seems pretty normal and I'm not concerned about this. My front tooth is actually very sore today and in a couple of hours I'm going in for and adjustment. The pain will be horrible, I'm sure... I'm ready for a soup and smoothie diet for a couple of days :)

Ask your ortho if you're worried!

That happened to me a week before my first tightening. Even now, my teeth will feel fine for a couple days, then I have pain for a week. :(

I had off and on soreness throughout my treatment - even up until my top brackets came off a couple weeks ago. Even once I was in my final/finishing wire, my orthodontist made bends in the wire to move certain teeth, and I was sore after every adjustment... even a couple weeks after an adjustment, I would get random pains as my teeth moved and shifted into final positions.

Hey cariad1,

This is common. Although aching is more common after tightening, it can still happen periodically between tightening visits. When I had my braces ( I was 32), I noticed aching was intermittent and got better with time. Just tell yourself the aching is a good sign because the teeth are "moving to a better place". Hope it gets better!

Cheers
