TAD / Mini Plate Removal - What does it feel like?

#1 Post by pellepee »

Hello everyone!

I have browsed these boards my entire 4 year journey and only posted a couple of times; but I am finally braces free as of last week! I firstly just wanted to thank this board and moderators and everyone involved who posts their journey in detail because... well... you kept me sane and healthy and helped me make smart decisions about my treatment. So, a big box of virtual chocolates for everyone! Only 6 months over estimated treatment time too. Woo!

I just have one last question for everyone. I tried searching the forum and couldn't find anything but I am sure it has been answered so apologies for the double-up.

I have 4 mini-plates in my jaw and am scheduled to get them out in the chair next year. Across two appointments as well; one for each side. I was wondering if anyone has experience with this? I got them put in under general anesthetic because they took wisdom teeth out at the same time. So as you can imagine, I'm going in blind! What does it feel like? I did have a tooth pulled once in the chair, please tell me it is easier than that! I got through that experience okay, but I wouldn't want to go through anything worse that's for sure!

Good luck for all the braces out there and happy holidays to everyone! Stay warm in the north, stay cool in the south. xoxo

P.S. Sorry, my blog has not been updated for some time. It will be though! But after Christmas... yikes!

My plates are still in for open bite correction, just thought I'd mention we have the same orthodontist (and probably same surgeon).

Hi, I had two TAD's in my upper pallet removed last Thursday (for correction of an open bite), and only had to have topical LA gel. I found the experience much better than when they went it and felt little discomfort. When I had them placed in I could literally feel them being screwed into the bone. Having them removed was a huge relief and much better than I expected. I am sure you will be fine, good luck with it!
Started treatment to correct open bite non surgically
