Possible root canal while wearing braces
So....I had an incident regarding a bottom molar. This tooth has a very large filling and I've always had some issues with it. I went to my dentist and they said if it doesn't get any better I may need a root canal. How does that work while wearing braces? I am terrified of the root canal but will this affect my braces too?
Re: Possible root canal while wearing braces
Usually after a root canal a crown is placed on top of the tooth because it's been weakened, that by itself means that a bracket will need to be removed from your tooth and one placed on the crown.
As for whether the tooth should not be moved immediately after a root canal, etc...ask your orthodontist :/

Re: Possible root canal while wearing braces
I had a root canal done on a premolar a few months ago with my braces
My dentist did the root canal with the bracket and wire still on the tooth, and then I went to the ortho to get the bracket removed as per my dentist's wishes. However they broke part of the tooth off when removing the bracket, but this wasn't much of an issue as I had a crown fitted shortly after. There was no bracket on the crown for about a month and now I have a bracket on and it has been fine
It also hasn't affected my treatment time at all in case you were worried about that!

Remind your dentist to call your ortho (or vice versa) before the root canal and they'll work out whatever needs to be done.
