Hi. I'm new to this forum. I'm 43 and getting braces - yeah, never thought this would be happening. I've always had a bite that hits straight up and down. About a year ago, I got one of those dental appliances that pulls the jaw forward - helped with the snoring, but totally messed up my bite. So now I'm getting the braces. About 6 to 9 months after wearing them, I will have to get Orthodontic Bone Anchors (link below) surgically put in. I am so nervous about this part. Apparently they have to cut my gums and place the anchor and then sow the gums back. Totally freaked out and not to mention the cost.  So, I'm here to see if anyone has had this experience and can hopefully shed some light on the situation. I really appreciate your input. Thanks!

Re: Orthodontic Bone Anchor
I had TAD's (temporary anchorage device) but it sounds like what you are getting is a few steps further then the TAD which is a screw into your gum.

Re: Orthodontic Bone Anchor
Hi,
some time ago, I was an active member here. I had braces for a long time, and one of the many steps was me getting bone anchors. Thanks to the excellent memory of this site, my whole story is still here :

When you have the courage to read through all this, you can find there pictures when I had those bone anchors, but also upper (TPA) and lower lingual arches during another moment of my treatment. Now, my whole treatment wasn't a great succes, in the sense that they were not able to close my anterior open bite. The surgery to install the bone anchors was scary, but in general not that bad. I posted during those days this :

Scroll down a bit where you can find how I experienced this surgery. Some weeks later I posted this :

As I said, my treatment was not successful, but that has nothing to do with those bone anchors themselves, but has everything to do with the skills of the ortho to work with these. When I read your post, all memories came back. Because I see similar hardware coming your way and not many members here have or had bone anchors, I wanted to share my info with you. Best of luck !
