How many teeth have you "waxed" at once?

#1 Post by parsleysage »

I'm at 9/27 teeth right now. It seems a little ridiculous but it feels so good. I'm using the silicone earplugs as suggested by several youtubers/archwired members. It's easy to use.

Thought about creating a poll but can't figure out how. My options would be:

[ ] I have never used wax; I haven't needed it.
[ ] I have never used wax; I like pain.
[ ] 1-2 teeth
[ ] 3-5 teeth
[ ] 6-10 teeth
[ ] 11-15 teeth
[ ] 16-20 teeth
[ ] 21-25 teeth
[ ] 26-27 teeth
[ ] ALL teeth covered with wax!

I have maybe 6 waxed? It feels excessive to me too, but it seems like once I wax one, another hurts!

Just 1 right now; top right molar band. The hook is a little pokey and the arch wire is poking out the back of the tube a little.
Round 3 (lifetime) Damon stainless applied 3/16/20 (after 4 weeks attempting invisalign) On for about 18 months
Night time elastics with invisalign retainers; still...
Double jaw surgery was 6/18/15...
Orthodontics never really ends...
I'm emphatically against extraction orthodontics!

I have 0 waxed today. But the day is not over. They feel much better today, kinda getting used to the braces. I maxed out at 4 waxed on Saturday though.

I always waxed during the day, but let it go at night. The mild "rubbing" during sleep let my cheeks and lips toughen up without being too painful.

[X] I have never used wax; I haven't needed it.

Came close once or twice earlier on.

The most I've waxed at any one time has been 5. Usually, when I need to wax, the pain comes in groups of 4. Except the one time I was in misery at 5. :)

I always, always have the bottom front six waxed, and often have the top front six also waxed, though I'm moving away from that now. If things are really bad and my tongue has a lot of sores (I have lingual braces), then I'll use an entire wax strip for the bottom and another for the top.

I tried the silicone ear plugs and HATED them. They tasted funny to me and were too soft or something. I never knew that I had strong feelings about wax, but apparently I'm very particular.

I've probably gone through about 75 or more of the little plastic packets of silicone wax since getting braces. I'm about to buy another box of 50, and I don't even care. Whatever it takes to get through this.

I haven't actually waxed any teeth, I've just done warm salt rinses. I did, however, once (okay more like three times) put an entire strip of wax across my expander and bite turbos because my tongue was bleeding. Still haven't gone through an entire pack though!
Sentence:
28 months in full upper and lower braces, open coil spring for additional alignment space for permanent teeth to erupt, elastics to align back bite, bite turbos, and palate expander.

When I was younger and I had braces the first time I absolutely hated the sensation of the wax in my mouth the first time I tried it. Plus it was a pain and unsightly to remove. So I just let my cheeks toughen up and I haven't used it since and I don't intend to. Ha.

Since this post I haven't used wax in several days. I guess my skin toughened up quick!

I've had surprisingly little rubbing/chafing. I used a little bit of dental silicone the first few days, but that was mostly because my dentist had accidentally given me a canker sore a few days before getting braces. I also needed it along my lower front 4 one day, but that's about it. I feel like I lucked out.
