Making my own decision to take off braces.

#1 Post by brazez »

I've had braces on for 2 years now, I was supposed to get them off a couple months ago but I've kept them on mainly because I've addressed my concern of having a slight slant in my smile. And the only thing that makes it look that way is one canine and is way shorter than the other.

Attempts have been made to lower the short canine but none of them have made a difference. My last appointment was when I really hoped to have the okay to get them off, but the dentist made another attempt to lower the canine. It was the same attempt as the last, but using more bend in the wire to pull the tooth down. I felt 0 soreness just like last time, not to mention I have had other teeth be pulled down before. Felt a lot of soreness and saw movement in less than a day. I've posted about experiencing pain after having an adjustment and most of the replies have been 'I have had braces on for ___ months now and have had a ton of improvement with no pain' well I don't think people really get my point. After every single time I have made an adjustment, wether it's tightening or getting a different arch wire put in, I have felt soreness. After that, I know it's still working in improving my smile even though I don't experience constant pain but I feel that it's not normal to experience no soreness after an adjustment.

So honestly I'm not convinced that my smile will look any different after 4 weeks, even though I'd like to see and believe that it's improving I'm quite sure that in 4 weeks my smile is going to look the same as now.

I just don't know what to do, I don't want to take them off without being sure if there actually IS something that can be done to fix the problem and my dentist is just incapable of doing so.

Should I go back to ortho? What should I say? :Questions:

Sometimes you dont really feel soreness until at least a week after....U might jus feel pressure but not soreness.

I kno after a few of my adjustments i felt fine...Ate lunch and dinner like normal..

Then prob 2 weeks later i would have a sore tooth or a couple sore teeth in the area where the adjustment as made...

So i say hold out until ur next appointment and then voice ur concerns to the ortho...
