can braces really broaden your smile?

#1 Post by Anna5 »

I was wondering whether braces can really broaden your smile?
Maybe some of you can post some pictures to show me an example of how your smile was 'broadened' with braces alone? (without SARPE or expander, but just with braces and/or elastics)? Thanks a lot!

my teeth were pointed inward so the braces have brought them straight so looks broader (but am having maxillary impaction which will make it look even wider) - hope that helps a little? :s We're still trying to widen my arch even more..

Thanks, Leebie. I can see a difference! I hope the ortho can broaden your smile even more, that would be beautiful!

I never thought of my smile being small, but pre braces I averaged about 6 uppers showing in my smile. Now, I show 8-10 teeth when I smile. According to my dentist, my upper arch has gone from a 'twin' to a 'king' size and I have more tongue room too. Pluses all around.

I am already looking forward to seeing your debraced teeth, Starfish!
Did your ortho manage to fix your crossbite completely?

I dont know if I had a crossbite. I know that both my uppers and lowers tipped in (uppers much more so) which may have been a factor, so my bite was terrible. My ortho is wonderful but he's often so busy I dont get a chance to ask as many questions as I want. That added to the fact I was so dental-phobic at the start of treatment I could barely articulate my questions anyway! Whatever it was, my ortho now says my bite is great so I'm guessing its fixed! To be honest I was far more concerned about my 12mm overjet!

I think braces do broaden the smile.

I even see it in mine, or maybe it's my imagination. You be the judge.

I am happy that your crossbite and moreover your big overjet is fixed now, Starfish!

And I do think that your smile has broadened, samoorelaw, although it is a bit hard to see because the pictures are quite small.

I am happy to know that braces can broaden the smile, hopefully they will also work that way for me!
