Wow, i am really impressed. I am only in my 7th day with braces, but seeing MrsCharisma's pictures I was wondering why do we have to wear braces for 18-24-26 months if the teeth are strenghtening in only 9 or 10 months. I am wearing braces for crowded upper teeth. If they will look good in less than a year, can I ask my ortho to remove my braces (and put my fixed retainer on, of course) since they are not working on my overjet or something else?

In my experience, the actual moving seems to one of the faster parts. But your teeth need time to stabilize/get used to their new positions.
First Consultation: July 16th, 2013
Second Consultation: August 21st, 2013
Extractions (Wisdom + baby tooth): August 22nd, 2013
Brace Date: September 4th, 2013
First Adjustment: October 18th, 2013.

I thought that stabilizing teeth in their new position is retainer' job... :(. At least that is what I was hoping...

hi, my understanding is that the retainers simply retain the stabilised position :)

According to my ortho, what Leebie said! :)

Orthodontics work by putting force on the teeth, which dissovles the bone and then the bone reforms "on the other side" stabilizing the teeth in their new position. So I think for most of us (especially without severe bite issues), things happen REALLY fast and then it's a waiting game.

We've closed my diastema, closed the secondary spaces, opened my bite, now it's time to tweak and then stabilize. I am still hoping for 18 months total. Fingers crossed!

I love seeing the before and after pics. I can't wait to post mine! I officially start treatment in 9 days with the RPE, I am sooooo freaking excited!!

My ortho said my braces are ready to come off Friday! She placed the lower bonded retainer and did the impression for the upper which will be placed Friday. She said I'd have upper and lower essix but previousley she said an upper Hawley so I'm not sure on that. I'm not thrilled with my "prominent" front teeth but they'll probably look different with the braces off and after a little reshaping. I also think a couple of the front teeth look a little crowded. I can only post 3 pictures I guess so I'll do another post with the rest.
