I'm new here! Brace advice

#1 Post by Cdp95 »

Hi guys :) I'm new here but as I'm the only one of my friends left with braces (I'm 18), I have no one else to talk to about them!

Basically I've had my braces on for just under a year (since August 24th 2012). With the plan of having them on for 18 months, so finishing around Feb 2014. I had 4 teeth removed for this, I'm not quite sure which, which I know isn't very helpful but all I do know is that they were the same two on the top and two different ones on the bottom. My teeth were HORRIFIC just a year ago and I'm chuffed with the changes over 12 months but at my last app my ortho said that we were just doing the finishing touches now. I'm not satisfied with my teeth enough to have my braces off yet at all and after reading through many a forum post I'm determined that I won't have them off until I'm completely happy - especially seeing as I've paid £4000 for them!

My worries are

- My upper midline is WAY off, I confronted my ortho about this and he said 'there isn't much we can do about that' - but I'm not happy with that response, there must be something he can do?

- My lower teeth are not level with each other in height - I'm going to bring this up at my next appointment, hopefully he can do something with that

- My lower midline is also way off - again, NOT happy with this at all.

They are my main concerns, he's really sorted my over bite out very well, using elastics. Now my main concerns are all pretty much cosmetic

It won't let me post pictures, I'm not quite sure why?

Sorry for the long post! and Thank you for reading

Hello :D

I'm paying nearly £4000 for my braces too, and I know that if I'm not happy towards the end of my treatment I will be making my ortho aware that I don't want my braces off! It's a lot of money to pay to be unsatisfied with the result. Plus 6 months after your braces are off I can imagine you'll have a little voice in your head saying "should of had my braces on for longer!".

I would definately bug your ortho until he sorts out your midlines! Again, £4000 is a lot to pay!

You can't post pics as your still a new member, I can't remember how many posts you need to make. It should say in one of the stickies :-*

Ahh that's why then! I will add photos to the thread once I've posted 7 times :)

Yup I'm adamant that they won't come off until I'm happy with them! My parents think they look great but they really don't haha.

I think you should have a chat with your ortho and not get them off until you are completely happy. £4000 is a lot of money and you have every right to be completely happy with the finished result or at least understand the reasons why they cannot achieve the results you were expecting. Good luck.

Hello!

I just wanted to tell you that I am astonished by the amazing progress you made in one year's time!!! Your bite and teeth/jaw looked quite off at the start of your treatment and now they are level, wow! This is very encouraging for me, because I have more or less the same issues as you and I would thank God if I can get finally get the results you have now! Did/do you also have an open bite and crossbite? Did they recommend surgery to get the perfect result or did your ortho say he can make it perfect with braces alone? Is the after-picture when you completely bite down, in other words do you still have an open bite?
Personally, I don't think your midlines are very much off, and I also don't think your lower teeth look too bad, but that is just me. I look at the amazing progress you made, and just think WOW!
But the only thing that matters is whether you are happy or not and if not, definitely address theses issues with your ortho. Maybe you can just have your braces on for a bit longer to get it all a bit more perfect? I hope so! Please keep us updated, I am looking forward to seeing you final result. I wish you very good luck with your treatment!

Greetings from Anna

Hi! :) I to can.t believe how much progress my teeth have made, which makes me feel sort of silly for wanting everything to be cosmetically perfect as the important stuff (jaws/bites) have been sorted out! I didn't have surgery and I never had an open bite, I did have a pretty severe crossbite but now when I bite down my bite is pretty much sorted (I can attach a pic of this later).

I do forget that the ortho said I'd have them on until around feb 2014 which is still another 5-6 months - a lot can change in that time!

Thank you for the encouraging words and I hope your treatment goes well also! :)

I forgot to add that I still have a slight overbite which before was a very severe overbite, that along with the crossbite used to cause my jaw to lock constantly!

Your teeth look really great!!! And indeed, there can still change a lot in the coming months, but I think I would be very happy with this result already!
