Gaps and wisdom teeth
Hi guys,
I'm thinking about getting braces (almost certainly going to get Damons when I sort my finances out) and had a question regarding my wisdom teeth.
My teeth are pretty straight in terms of alignment but have gaps throughout. I have upper and lower wisdom teeth that have never caused me any problems.
From what I understand they don't attach brackets to the wisdom teeth right? Are they likely to just close all gaps but then leave a gap between my wisdom and 2nd molars?

Re: Gaps and wisdom teeth
Hi,
I have my wisdom teeth bracketed. Just recently, I had to have one wisdom tooth extracted.
How large are your gaps and were they caused by extracted teeth?
I had two molars extracted long before I got braces, one gap was closed but the other one, wasn't. I had lost too much bone because that tooth was extracted too long ago so I will need a bridge. My wisdoms were bracketed because they were healthy and it provided stability.
There is a possibility that your ortho may want the teeth removed before you get braces and maybe not.

I guess he best way would be to show you pics so i've hopefully attached those properly.
I have had no extractions all of the gaps are throughout the front teeth so I guess all teeth would be moved forward. I didn't think it would be possible to bracket my wisdom teeth since they are so far back but if you have had that done maybe that won't be the case.
Also that is my normal bite (open bite?) my teeth used to have a fairly regular bite but now my back teeth seem to touch but none of my front teeth do. I think this started to happen gradually as my wisdom teeth came through. Hopefully that can be sorted out as well.

Re: Gaps and wisdom teeth
Oh, those gaps are nothing...easily fixable.
My wisdoms are far back also and at first I had a hard time because the brackets were right up against the bone so it hurt a bit here and there.
I would get a few consultations, it doesn't appear from your photos that your case is very complicated so your result will be great!
If they do want you to get your wisdoms out first, being that I just had one removed...it doesn't hurt at all. What is annoying, is the healing process. It started being annoying on day 3. As things start to heal, it is tender and when I ate, it hurt if food touched anywhere near the extracted area. On day 10, everything was fine. So it does take a while and I would suggested getting all extracted at once then waiting a few weeks to get braced.
Good luck!

Re: Gaps and wisdom teeth
Hi guys
Thought i'd post an update here incase anyone happened to be interested or had similar teeth to me
I finally managed to find somewhere and suprisingly the ortho said I would actually be able to fix my teeth using Invisalign so I decided to go with that
I have had X-rays, impressions etc and now received my Clincheck back (basically the 3d model of how they'll hopefully look)
I've put some pictures below
Feel free to move the thread, I'll try to update it every so often and feel free to ask questions

Re: Gaps and wisdom teeth
Thank guys - I'm really happy that I went ahead with it in the end. My ortho was very confident of getting the job done with invisalign in most cases and told me there were very few cases that she didn't think she could get done without using regular braces.
She was down as a platinum elite invisalign provider due to her level of experience so I'd probably recommend looking into that beforehand.
Anyone on the fence about getting your teeth sorted I'd say go for it. To give you an idea of cost I paid £4000 (around $6000) and after paying a £400 deposit I spread the cost across 18 months interest free. I'm sure I could have got it a fair bit cheaper but not sure I'd have been as happy with the results
