Is aspirin strong enough for pain on first days with braces.

Is aspirin strong enough for pain on first days with braces.
I will be getting metal brackets in a couple days. I should take some aspirin for preventive heart issues and colon cancer prevention. Is aspirin a strong enough pain reliever during first couple days with braces? I realize, I will need to increase my dosage from the normal preventive weak dose (baby aspirin). Just trying not to mix even over the counter meds. I rarely take medication or even pain relievers.

Hi,
I guess that depends on your pain tolerance Everyone is different though. I made it through the first week with ibuprofin for the first 2 days.
Good luck!

Regular dose of Advil was plenty for me.
Re: Is aspirin strong enough for pain on first days with bra
Yes, an OTC dose of just about any NSAID will do a decent job. It will be more effective if you take it before your appt.

I took an OTC painkiller before my appointment but didn't need it. Haven't taken anymore, including before and after adjustments. I've had no pain.

Don't let yourself get psyched out over the expectation of pain. I am the eternal mental patient on here. (not really, it just seems that way). I worried about every possible aspect of getting braces and most of them turned out to be nothing, including application pain. Although the duct tape they used to keep me in the chair was a bit of a concern.
But also ortho pain never really bothered me. I'll do ortho work any time over a hygienist (sp?) cleaning anytime.

My orthodontist gave me Aleve when I left. It was pretty bad the first couple of days but unless they give me a way bigger archwire my teeth don't normally hurt as bad as that. But dear lord, after I started elastics they made me want to cry. After a few days it went away and since I wear them as prescribed they don't hurt anymore, even if they come out for a couple hours.

I got my bottoms on two weeks ago. SLIGHT headache that night, but absolutely did not require any pain meds.
I got my uppers on yesterday. I feel nothing. (which is actually kind of worrying me!)
If braces are "no pain, no gain"...then BRING ON THE PAIN!
meh. oh well. I'm sure I'll have some kind of ear ache or something eventually to make up for the pain I'm not having from having braces put on.

Yep- I had braces and 4 extractions on same day (yesterday!) and I have taken very little pain meds. Depends on every different person I guess. Ill be taking ibuprofen if needed as soon as I feel any aches to catch it before it develops.

I've had lots and lots of movement but no pain. My ortho said it should be a pretty painless procedure these days.

Yeah, it's not nearly as bad as I remember from when I was a kid. I think the real innovation is the NiTi wires, which are nice and gentle ways of starting out. (This should date me somewhat... NiTi wires have been out a while, but my first round was before some posters here were born.) Nevertheless, I was popping Advil for a couple of days after starting out. Steady-state pain was barely noticeable, but chewing was a bear.

My hygienist rocks! I had a cleaning today and it was awesome, especially since it didn't take as long...my teeth were in pretty good shape. Should be for all the brushing and flossing I do. Or maybe it's the paraffin wrap on my hands as they do the cleaning that keeps me going back for more.......

I just got mine on on Wednesday and have had very little pain at all....just pressure! : )

Mine hurt like
So OTC was not enough for me. If I could do it again I would have taken something before I went in, and then as the bottle reads for the first 2 days.
