So... ow.

#1 Post by Glandyover »

I have been pretty tough so far. I haven't complained about any pain, haven't said anything hurt (it was just "pressure" instead of pain), spacers didn't really bother me that much, I didn't use wax after the first week or so.

But I am not so tough today. Ow.

I went in to get my bottom brackets put on and get one of my "upper sixes" banded since there's a crown on it that brackets won't stick to well. The spacer in front of that bad boy broke twice so there wasn't space in front of it. I'm sitting here at work, having taken Ibuprofen getting karma for my tough words. DANG that thing hurts right now! Oh, also, they did some really minor molar buildups, another bait and switch so I'm biting funny. All in all, today could have been much better.

And ow.

Hey Glandy--Sorry you are having a tough day!!

On the good side though, after a few adjustments, it should start getting easier and easier--and then pretty painless and boring...hopefully that will happen for you...

I found in the beginning it took 2-3 days for the soreness to subside, and then I would totally forget about it until the next adjustment. Good luck!!

Yeah, I already had my top ones on and they weren't any problem at all. On the bright side, things do feel a lot better now maybe it was that band being wedged between those teeth so fast. Hopefully it stays painless again. Earlier today was quite unpleasant.

I just had my 2nd adjustment. got brackets on the back teeth but same wire and elastics so there isn't much pain. So I feel all dissapointed! Pain = movement, and I want movement!

Yeah, it's better this morning. I think I was spoiled by just having braces on top. I could keep them just on top forever. Having them on both bottom and top is a lot more annoying.

Ouch! Sorry to hear you're so uncomfortable. I'm still in top braces only, so I'm a little worried and dreading when my lowers go on in a month or two.

If I recall correctly, Gladyover, you had been loving your braces, right? Are you now ready to be done with them?

After a few days of reflections I'm okay with it. Be warned, though! You might be ocean now because top braces are a breeze but annoyance awaits!
It's harder to clean after you eat, your cheeks are going to have to get used to them again, and you might speak a bit less clearly for a couple days. Like anything you'll get used to it but don't go in thinking it's not a change from the current status.

Oh, and I still love my braces. The bottoms look awesome.

For me it's bottom braces only...so far. The spacers weren't fun, but the braces have been pretty okay, even after adjustments. My teeth are moving quickly so there is a fair amount of unfomfortable-ness. But I'm okay with that. My third adjustment is Nov 7th, then I get a RPE installed on December 12th. SARPE is scheduled for Dec 18th and I'm looking at that with equal amounts of trepidation and excitement. After that, I'll be getting upper braces. My mouth is gona be so full of metal that I won't be able to get near an airport without setting off all the alarms!

I've never had just bottoms but it might be something about having both that makes the whole food thing tougher. When you have just tops you can chew in a way that keeps food from getting so badly trapped but once you have both all your previous tricks stop working. Is it the same way with the bottoms only?

Believe me, I am absolutely dreading the bottom braces! The only upside is that it will mark progress toward the blessed end.

I can't imagine how horrible it will be. With just my tops on, nearly two months in to the process I'm still chomping down on my poor cheeks, no matter how carefully I chew. I'm reminded of the Lynyrd Skynyrd lyric that goes "whiskey bottles and brand-new cars, oak tree you're in my way" ... only in my case it's "misaligned molars and brand-new brackets, mouth cheeks you're in my way"

Probably so. As it is, I find myself eating less just 'cause it's such a hassle to clean out the mess after. When I get the tops (sometime after SARPE, scheduled for 12/18/12), I'm sure it will get verrry interesting. With all that metal in my mouth, talking is going to be difficult, and I think chewing is going to take a lot of time & practice! As will the revised clean-up routine after. The weirdest thing I've found so far is that my teeth are moving so quickly that I have to re-learn how to say certain words/phrases about every week!

So the worst of it seems to be in the past but this damn molar is bugging me at odd intervals. It either happens in the early afternoon or in the wee hours of the morning but it starts bugging me and I can almost feel it up in my sinuses. After a couple of Tylenol it goes away but it's kinda annoying.
