Swelling gums and retainer problems! HELP!

#1 Post by samdillahunt »

I have two problems: I have a thing that's like a permanent retatiner behind the back of my two front teeth, and I think my gums are swelling behind it and over the top of it. I can feel the surface area of the piece getting smaller over time. I don't want it to sink into my gums or something!
Secondly, I wear my retainer pretty often. I've had my braces off for two years now but I still have to wear it. When I put it on I have to forcibly SHOVE it so that that back pieces will stay on/around my back teeth. It hurts really bad. I feel like it's spacing out my back teeth instead of keeping my front teeth together.
I moved from my old town so I don't go to an ortho anymore, but when I go to the dentist they never say anything about this metal piece on the back of my teeth. I want it removed.
