Dentist Teeth Cleaning with Braces and Powerchain

#1 Post by LibraKiki »

Have a question. Do I need to get my wire removed by my ortho before I go into my dentist for a cleaning and check up? If not how does your dentist clean your teeth properly with the wire and a power chain on?

I've NEVER had my wire or powerchains removed for a cleaning. They do a super job of working around everything. They even floss for me. If this is your first visit for a cleaning with braces, they'll tell you what you need to do, if anything.

You do not have to have wires out for cleanings. I have had all but one cleaning without wires. My ortho is about 8 minutes away from the dentist, so I schedule cleanings around wire changes. I prefer to have my wires out for cleanings. I feel my teeth look better, the hygienists said they appreciate not having to work around stuff plus, I get to see what my teeth look like without wires for a while! If you can make it work, I would recommend having the wires out.

I am in SureSmile wires now, on my last wire, but having my teeth cleaned on Thursday. I will go to the ortho first, have them take off my wires and powerchains, then go to dentist for a cleaning. Then head back to ortho for my appointment. For me, it isn't an inconvenience at all.

All my wires were intact during my cleanings.

Just had my teeth cleaned this morning with my wires in. It apparently takes a bit longer but for me its not as long as it would to get to the ortho and get the wires out and then back in again. Also the cleaning didn't hurt like i was exepecting it to even though my teeth are tender.
