temporary brace removal?
Anyone had this done?
I am getting married in July 2013, thinking my braces were on for a maximum of 2 years.
I got them on in April 2011, just found my original treatment plan to realise it says 27 months +/- 3 months, which means I could be in braces for our wedding...
Just wondering, if it came down to it, is it a possibility to have them removed and put back on? any ideas how much it should cost?
I haven't asked my ortho yet as next appointment is in a couple of weeks, I don't want to ask until nearer the time when we're more sure of how progress is going.

Re: temporary brace removal?
i remember reading in someone's braces story (can't remember who though) that they were doing just this i.e. having the braces removed for a couple weeks for their wedding and honeymoon. i am sure it is possible but to be honest i couldn't bother with the hassle of all that, i would be more tempted to put off the wedding until after de-brace day
Re: temporary brace removal?
Like the date of a wedding is that easily moved?
There was a woman who had her uppers removed for a few days so she could be in her daughters wedding photos without braces. She said it was worth it. I imagine being the one actually getting married makes it even more worth it.
Talk to the ortho though, he may be able to speed it up just enough to be debanded in time for your wedding.

Ok so this is meerly a suggestion for you and by no mean any professional advice.
If it were me, i would ask my ortho to remove my top braces and make me an invisalign type retainer to wear.
Im assuming by doing that your not going to be un doing and progress you have made, your possibly not running the risk of having to have the braces put back on by a certain time or worrying that your treatment is going to be set back 2-3 months either.
So if you go through the wedding you would feel ok as well to enjoy your honneymoon without thinking too much about it either.
Just something to think about if it helps you at all, have a chat to your ortho it cant hurt and your probably not the first person to go through it and you wont be the last.

Re: temporary brace removal?
Yeah I would let them know you have a very important date and you know it is so what out of their control but if the goal could be to get them off before then would be great if not you will want them removed temporarily.
I wanted to renew my wedding vows for my 10th anniversary last year but just didn't feel comfortable enough with braces to do that, I know its silly but that's how I feel and I will wait.
Hopefully your teeth are moving well and you won't need them that long anyway my original estimate was 28 months and Its looking like anywhere between 20-24 is more likely.

Re: temporary brace removal?
I was in my sister's wedding last September with upper ceramics and lower metal braces. I asked when I got them on in January and they stated that they do have "special event" removal, however, like someone else stated, it is a major hassle. They never quoted me a price, but I think it's a few hundred to get them taken off and put back on again.
Also, you run a risk of your teeth shifting during the time they are off and possibly defeating any purpose of them being braced, don't know how much regression you could possibly have.
Another alternative my ortho suggested would be just to take the wires out, since the brackets are virtually invisible. I decided in the end that mine aren't even that noticeable, and so I didn't do anything, and it was fine. Definitely a bigger deal in my mind that what it turned out to be.
Then again, since you're the bride, you may want to inquire about it. You could have more patience than me though...
Good luck!

Re: temporary brace removal?
I am getting married in three months. I am not worried about the fact that I will have braces when I do. In fact I knew when I got them I would have braces on during my wedding. In my case however I knew how awful my teeth looked before and even with braces its a huge improvement. I would not risk being set back in my progress for a few pictures. It's one day and having braces is making your life better for life. I just want the end goal of being married. And if my pictures bother me that much I have have them edited. And I plan on having a huge family photo shoot when I get them off to celebrate that I can finally smile with ease. All I see wedding photos as is a snapshot of a day. And in that day I had braces. Its just who I am.

to the op - you never know, your teeth might be fine by then. or, there may be an unforseen issue that could cause problems. for example, i had a major issue with teeth lifting that made my whole face crooked - fixed now, but boy did i look weird for a bit, it hurt, and taking the braces off at that point would have been a really bad move!
i would talk to your ortho, ask if something could be done to make them less "shiny" or something if you're concerned about the photos. or move the date of the wedding if it really bothers you that much.
but really, your wedding is about your lives together, just one day out of thousands you'll be spending together! most people don't spend a lot of time looking at their wedding photos....

Thanks for the replies!
I am the groom not the bride ha!
My fiancé is a photographer and I'm a graphic designer probably why we want the photos to be good! But more importantly it's confidence, I'd like to smile confidently on our wedding day, giving speeches etc it's not just about a few photos. I'm sure my teeth will look great by then even in braces so will have to see how it goes.

yep, my dad is a photographer, and perfectionist barely describes him while he is taking pictures, or anyone else for that matter.kennyandrew85 wrote: My fiancé is a photographer and I'm a graphic designer probably why we want the photos to be good!
I think the Essix is a good idea if you aren't quite done with the braces yet, then you don't have to worry about any movement.

i woudn't worry about getting married in braces if i were you. afterall, hardly anyone pays attention to the groom on the wedding day

Re: temporary brace removal?
If it bothers you, I'd go ahead and have it done. If I were getting married while in braces, I think I would have them out for the wedding; while I know few people would notice, those wedding pictures are forever.
I imagine it would be a few hundred dollars... total price depending on the cost of the brackets and what your ortho thinks that chunk of his/her time is worth.
