Has anyone else suffered with the roots of their teeth being snapped TWICE? I feel very un-lucky this has happened to me especially as i`m due to have my brace fitted on Friday the 13th (Yikes) My dentist said this was inevitable given my age (nearly 40) and the fact that roots on top teeth go into 2 prongs and are very thin. When the first root snapped she went ahead with cutting my gum open to retrieve it, this I have to say, felt like torture! so you can imagine how reluctant I was to go back a second time to have the other 2 teeth out, but when that root snapped i thought i was going to pass out lol thankfully I had already said beforehand if the root was to snap the second time to leave it where it was (no-way i was going thro that again) so i wondered if anybody else has had this problem, if so did it interfere with their procedure?
Any helpfull tips or words of advice would be greatly appreciated at this time as i`m still suffering a fair bit with pain but learning to cope with pain killers, and i`m hoping I may have actually gone through the worst of it, or is this a taste of things to come?
One very nervous/excited newbie o_O
Four teeth removed, root snapped on two :(

Re: Four teeth removed, root snapped on two :(
You are brave for even going in for more extractions. I had one bottom front extraction which fractured and it took my poor dentist 45 minutes to dig out the root. It was truly one of the worst experiences of my life (I´m 55). The dental assistant and I still talk about it! I think we were all three tramautized.
So they left the root tip in your second tooth? I do have an exposed gum area on the tooth next to that extraction now and the orthodontist just told me last week that nothing would be done to it until my braces are off, hoping of course that it resolves and grows back properly. The extraction was by far the worst of it for me, other than a few days of normal adjustment and pain right after getting the braces on.
Now my ortho also informed me that if I had a top extraction he could greatly improve my bite. Initially we both agreed that my teeth would be straightened but without surgery he couldn´t do a lot with my bite. I didn´t have time to ask more about it as he was already behind schedule
but I feel confused. The idea of another extraction terrifies me and I´ve had loads of dental work and numerous major surgeries so it´s not like I haven´t been under the knife already. I just don´t know if I can go through another extraction.
I think you are past the worst. Getting braces actually put on is a piece of cake. And then you´ll start seeing change!!!! And there´s no turning back once you have extractions so just be glad that´s done and enjoy the rest!

Thank you Sue for your words of encouragement, they are very much appreciated!
I am intrigued if a little apprehnsive in finding out what life with braces will be like, not long now : /
I didn`t have the second root removed as I was still pretty much traumatised with having the first one extracted, i`m not sure what the ortho will do about it, wether he`l will "put me out" to have it removed or wether he`l leave it be. My dentsist says it shouldn`t make alot of difference to the procedure as the root is only a matter of being 1 to 2 mm`s thick so i`m hoping that is the case. I don`t suppose it helped matters as the 4 extractions were done within 2 weeks of each other....so my mantra this last month has been "no pain, no gain" definately no going back now i`ve taken the first big step into having a broad healthy smile :D
