Okay, so I had braces when I was a teenager. However, I did not wear my retainers!!!!! Now the second time around at the age of 38, I had a pendulum installed because I did not have teeth extracted and this device will move my molars back.
The pendulum was installed on December 2. The ortho speculates that I will wear this for approx. 6 mos.
When this was first installed I was horrified!!!! It's like a bridge in my mouth when I thought it would be flush against my palate. Speaking and eating is a chore.
Anybody had experiences with the pendulum???
I will keep my experiences posted.
Thanks in advance.

Okay, this is the third day and so far I can eat slightly better. My speech is still not up to par. My tongue still is sore with imprints.

I was actually able to eat pizza without cutting it up today!!! The ortho was right when he said it gets better. Just to think four days ago I was heavily salivating and eating through a straw.
I notice a little spacing on my left side of my mouth but very little on the right. Hopefully it will progress on schedule.

I am supposed to get a pendulum appliance installed after I get braces in about a month. I have not read ANY great things about this and it scares me! My job requires me to answer the phone on a daily basis and not being able to talk correctly scares me. Do you have any suggestions or comments about this? I'm going to talk to my Ortho more about it but I just don't know if there is anyway around getting the appliance!
