Bottom molars lower than bottom front teeth?

#1 Post by Snowman »

Hello everyone.

My bite has been feeling very wrong lately so I looked at my bottom molars and noticed they are sunken much lower than my bottom front teeth. When I bite down, my jaw feels as if it has to move back for my molars to touch. I've had braces for about 15 months and I've worn strong rubber bands about 10 months now. My teeth look really straight right now and the only thing I'm not satisfied with is this weird bite feeling. Has anyone experienced this or know anything about this kind of problem? Will it take long to fix? I'm scared that its going to take a long time to fix because I heard molars move very slowly.

I appreciate any opinions, thanks.

Hi Snowman,
I have the same issue. My ortho has installed a "utility arch" which will bring the front teeth down. I sympathize with your bite issue. When my ortho asks me to bite down and show the bite I have to say "I have no idea where my bite is supposed to be...where my teeth come together isn't comfortable".

Thanks bedazzlemouth!

I feel the same way about not knowing how my bite is supposed to be. Haha I guess I never thought it could be my front teeth that are too high. How long have you had the utility wire and could it work with Damon braces?

My bottom molars were all a lot lower than my bottom front teeth, but they were pulled up during the straightening stage. Well, I think they're still moving, but at the beginning, the wire connecting the brackets from the higher front teeth to the molars was very noticeable, as it was almost completely diagonal from one bracket to the next. As the wire straightened, the bottom molars rose and aligned better with the front teeth. The original problem was not very noticeable until the braces were put on and it was obvious that the levels of the different teeth were considerable.
