Braces off in a week but midline seems to be off-need advice

#1 Post by 11lp »

Hi I am so thrilled that my braces are going to be off next Monday. However, I notice that the midlines of my upper and bottom teeth don't seem to align. I wish I could pose a picture but I don't currently have the privilege to do so. I would like your opinions on this. Is there a way the retainer can correct this? If so, I will immediately let my doctor know before next Monday comes. Thanks in advance!

Sometimes if you have braces to correct more serious problems, your midline may be off and the ortho won't be able to correct it. I think that midlines that are off a bit are not a priority. I know orthos always consider midlines and try to get them as lined up as possible, but perfect results don't always happen. I know of someone who had a perfect midline, but to correct her overbite, her midline ended up misaligned a little bit.

With some people it's just impossible to get a perfect midline top and bottom. My bottom midline for example, does not align with my top midline. If my bottom midline aligned with the top, then my bite would just be completely off. So i'd rather have an off bottom midline than an uncomfortable and wrong bite.

That's good to hear. I guess I just need to trust my orthodontist's judgement then. Thanks guys!

My midline is off (both top and bottom). I was very upset that the ortho said it would be hard to fix and still keep my bite. I thought it would always be on my mind, and I was very upset (I had to have two surgeries along with my braces). My bite is really good now. Honestly, my midline hasn't bothered me at all. Here is a pic:

Thanks! That is really comforting, Badbite. I just got my privilege so here is the picture. The doc said he will even out the edges of my teeth. Opinion?

bad bite - I had to look a few times to see what you were referring to. Now I see that you meant your midline was "off" in relation to the middle of your face. It really doesn't look that much off, to me, and your ortho did a great job with your teeth! :D

11lp - your teeth look super! I don't see that your midline vs. lip measurement is off by very much, either. I hope mine turn out that good. Can you please post pics of your teeth after your ortho evens out the edges? My lower teeth are just like yours, and I would love to see that end result. :D

Both my mid-lines are off too.
As much as i wish they were in the middle, i doubt my ortho can shift them there given my jaw/teeth/space etc conditions.
I'm just happy that i have a smile that looks reasonably nice compared to how crowded/unaligned my teeth were before braces. :D
