Hi everyone,
I took the plunge today and had an appointment to schedule myself in for six month braces (I wasn't a candidate for invisalign/inman aligners..). I am just wondering does anyone have any big bits of advice for me on them. I know as they're clear the staining can be an issue? Any other things I should keep in mind??
ANy help SO appreciated!!

Re: Six month braces
Hi moonbeam, - like your name.
Are you having fixed appliances? If so try to keep up a really good oral hygiene routine, I love my electric toothbrush, I use a small brush to clean the brackets, interspace brushes (size 0.7 and 0.6) and of course my trusty waterpik. My new ortho was well impressed with how clean they are. Dreading any marks though when they are removed. Oh and I use a non-alcohol mouthwash. I was always told I had calculus in my lower brackets so really worked hard at cleaning them but my new ortho says it is just glue that was left over from initial bonding and to relax. Good luck.

Yes, my one piece of advice is to make sure the person doing your braces is fully qualified, has done many successful cases previously, and has received more than just a few hours of training and a certificate. An orthodontist would be better for this than a regular dentist. Please be sure to check their credentials before proceeding.

I can definitely agree on that one there

This is my area of expertise and I am just a lowly GP
ask what will and will not be accomlished in your case so you can make sure your treatment goals are suitable for this type of treatment.

True, but you're a lowly GP with a lot of experience!drrick wrote:This is my area of expertise and I am just a lowly GP
What worries me is patients going for this sort of treatment from a doc who only took a few hours of training but hasn't done many cases.

Re: Six month braces
This ones over my head now. Why are you are lowly GP ? Don't get that one at all.
GP in england means General Practitioner - which is often a doctor that specializes in General practice of patient care. Tis marvellous that you have developed a wonderful invention though. Plenty of those needed in the world of healthcare and oral care.
Good luck with you innovations.
