Molar Bands

#1 Post by sadpanda »

Hi -

I was just wondering why some orthos use molar bands and some don't. My ortho doesn't use them, but the back bracket is large and designed a lot differently. I guess I was also wondering what the purpose of the molar bands are if newer braces technology makes them somewhat unnecessary?

I had to have bands on my gold crowns because the glue for brackets won't stick to the gold crowns.

I'm not sure why some people have molar bands and some people don't.

The last time I had metal braces I got molar bands. This time around I have ceramic braces and no molar bands, just metal brackets on my back teeth.

i asked this to my Ortho, and she said she only uses bands if the molar she needs to brace has big or/and "spilling over" filling, because it is safer for the tooth..

I did not have molar bands at first. The back brackets kept falling off, so I had to get the molar bands after all. The spacers were dreadful!
