Heyy there everyone.
I'm new to the forums and am getting my SL Smart Clip braces put on to correct my deep bite, teeth rotations and minor crowding in 2 weeks
I'm excited and nervous.. but mostly excited since i am 18 and my parents have agreed to pay the $8000 AU for my braces.
My question is:
Should i get clear or metal braces?
I initially was hesitant to consider clear, since i was told that they stain. But my ortho told me that the SL braces that i'm getting don't have ligatures and therefore don't stain.
clear. im so pleased with mine. and if yours has no elastic then brill, no stains. im careful what i eat as mine have elastics, am having an adjustment on monday and they change them then so im having a curry this weekend
I'm sorry, but what are SL Smart Clip braces? I've learned so much from reading this board, but this is one I haven't come across.
I'm set to get clear braces on top and metal on the bottom in a couple of weeks. I actually didn't ask about the brand/specifics;I was primarily focused on the nature of treatment, now long it would take, what the risks of bone/root resorption might be, and whether this was all worth it. I got a second opinion mainly to validate all that information, and once I did, I made up my mind and signed a contract with the first orthodontist. However, now I'm wondering if I should have been paying more attention to these details. I have the impression that the first orthodontist will use some sort of clear brackets with elastic ligatures. I was somewhat more comfortable with him overall than with the second orthodontist, but I have the sense that she offers a greater range of appliances. Is this just cold feet?
Orthodontists of the forum, feel free to correct me if I am wrong!
I have been told brackets are brackets, they all do the same job and it's just marketing hype if they say a certain bracket moves teeth quicker than another. It's the archwire that moves teeth, not the bracket (so I have been told).
So I don't think it really matters... ceramic, metal, SL non SL... they all do the same job at the end of the day?
Perhaps different Orthos like to work with different brands, what their reasons are I don't know.
Braces: Metal fixed upper and lower Estimated treatment time: 18-24 months Braces Removed: August 2013 (after 33 months in braces) Retainers: Upper & lower essix and lower bonded My Story / Before & After photos
I have Damon clear on the front six top ("social 6") and metal Damon's on the rest. I wouldn't trade them for anything. They do not stain and don't show that bad (wire shows, but not the brackets). At 54 years old, I needed all the encouragement I could get and this hasn't been bad at all.
There are pictures on my profile. Good luck in deciding and moving forward with your treatment.
