Thank you. :) I'm trying to force myself to realize that this is something I really want and that I should just suck it up and do it, even if it will be painful, make me look different, make me feel awkward, be expensive, etc. I know it is all worth it but I am having cold feet!

Hang in there. I'll be a couple of weeks behind you, and I can definitely imagine what you're going through. I find myself absolutely obsessing at this point and I must admit that I find myself checking this site a couple of times per day. Part of me wants the time to pass immediately so that I can go in and get the ball rolling. The rest of me thinks I'm nuts for doing this and wants to call the whole thing off.

I know you'll go in there and do great, and from what I've read here, the procedure is easy and it's over before you know it.

Keep your chin up and go take care of business! Please keep us updated. I'll probably need your encouragement in a couple of weeks!

I specifically remember reading your story and being excited for you that you chose to go through with it! :)

Thanks so much for posting. I'm sure it will be fine, and logically, I know this, but, I'm just not really *convinced* yet if that makes any sense at all.

I will definitely update tomorrow afternoon once I am home and I hope that I'll be able to post about how easy and pain free it was so that people will see that if I can go through with it, anyone can!

Don't be scared. I was a bit nervous the night before I got mine put on. I just didn't know what to expect which is why I got nervous. It was pretty much like any other dentist appointment I had before. Just like sitting back in the chair and opening up your mouth wide while the doctor pokes around in it. It wasn't until after my appointment that I went to the drugstore and was like what the heck did I just let them do that for? I didn't like the pressure on my teeth and boy did I feel it once that wire got put in.

Enjoy eating tonight and biting into things whole because tomorrow things may be a bit different for you in terms of possible soreness.

Thank you.

Breathe in, breathe out. Breathe in, breathe out.

I am going to bed now but I don't know if I will sleep. Tomorrow I will be a bundle of nerves for sure.

I'll be back to update tomorrow afternoon!

I completely understand your anxiety. I'm somewhat of a "dental-phobe" and hate even going in for my cleanings. I tense up, and have a horrible headache after I leave. So for me to actually be excited about going to the orthodontist every month is a HUGE step in overcoming my dental fears. After going through what I've already gone through with my braces, going to the dentist will be a piece of cake.

I'm sure you'll discover that it wasn't nearly as bad as you thought. For me, the worst part was the etching stuff they put on your teeth. It wasn't bad when they put it ON, but when they rinsed it out, I could still taste it and it was NASTY!! Like a sour, citrus-y flavor.

I can't wait until you get back to read about your experience!!

I'll admit I was s**tting bricks on my day, but once I got there I was fine. I think most people have some degree of pre-flight nerves, so the staff are used to it. Mine were along the lines of ok, let's get it done, you ready? Once they started, I was thinking more along the lines of wow, this does take awhile. The most annoying thing for me was not being able to swallow easily for over 2 hours, but the time passed faster than I thought it would. Good luck!

Thanks everyone!

Of course, I had nothing to worry about. I was mostly just really anxious about the changes, but the procedure itself was a piece of cake.

Here is the link to my story!

I was so excited. The time I had to wait between my consult and brace day seemed like forever. So, when it was time, I went into the ortho's office smiling and ready to be a metal mouth. Before the appointment, I actually had a different appointment that I left early because I felt like I was going to vomit and I sped home and made it only to the highway exit before I threw up in a bucket while driving the car. It actually had nothing to do with getting braces, I was having some medical problems at the time. I went home, brushed my teeth, and went to the ortho feeling so much better. And, like I said, it all went well and I was really excited and when the upper and lower brackets and wires and everything were all on, I walked out smiling a lot.
