Light at the end of the tunnel...

#1 Post by katy »

I have just had another adjustment today and have started on elastics. My mouth is throbbing but I don't care - my ortho has told me that if I wear the elastics 24/7 as instructed, I can expect to have my braces off in only 6 short months!! That's 6 -10 months earlier than originally quoted!! I am so excited that I'm not even noticing the pain... or maybe it's the drugs. :-*

Anyway, just wanted to share my excitement... To those of you that are wondering when this pain and agony is ever going to end, hang in there - you may be surprised at how quickly time passes...

Katy - that's wonderful news. You must be delighted. Is it not difficult to eat and talk with the elastics. I'm only 2 weeks into my treatment but I need my front teeth moved 5mm to the left and will obviously have to wear elastics but just wondered how you can still eat and talk when effectively your top jaw is connected to your bottom?

I hope I get the same kind of news as you.

It's day three of wearing elastics and I'm not having any problems so far. The first two days were awkward because my teeth were really sensitive and I was trying to get used to these whole new contraptions in my mouth. Now it seems like a breeze... they haven't affected my speech in any way and I'm able to eat with them on as well. The only time I take them off or change them is when I brush my teeth at night. If this is what the next 6 months are going to be like, I've got it easy! Depending on what configuration your ortho places your elastics, you may find it ok too. Mine are connected from my bottom first molars to the top second teeth from the middle (don't know what they're called).

I haven't seen much change as yet but I'm sure it'll happen soon. Good luck with your treatment, I'm actually starting to enjoy this whole process... crazy I kow!

Hang in there Evonne, things will get easier as time goes on...
