Nervous about IPR

#1 Post by evilnel »

I had an adjustment (6th or 7th, I think--my sentence is a year and I'm 7 months in) this morning, and got a new "pringle" wire on the bottom to correct my deep bite, but I still have overjet on the bottom that is going to require IPR at my next appointment. I'm really nervous about having gappy bottom teeth! How bad is it, really? It's funny because I had lots of gaps on the top, but none on the bottom (hence the overjet, I guess), so you'd think I would be used to spaces, but I'm not anymore! How fast do the gaps close with power chains?

Also, how long are you usually in a 'finishing wire'? I've had the same wire on the top for several adjustments and when I asked if I was going to get another one, the tech said this was the finishing wire. Seems like my top teeth are still pretty retroclined, though.

Any info/thoughts would be appreciated!

I had IPR to create more space in my lower arch a few months ago to help my canines rotate. There were most definitely spaces between the teeth and the powerchain took 2 or 3 weeks to completely close those gaps. I too was very nervous about IPR but am very pleased with the results my ortho was able to achieve using it.

Wow, 2-3 weeks is way faster than I expected! They've been closing caps on my top arch for seven months! My teeth tend to move a bit slower than normal, though. My bottom teeth seem really small already. Do your teeth seem narrower than normal now?

I have IPR done several times, top and bottom and its not big of a deal.

But my orthon did the IPR bit by bit.Meaning to say I only left with tiny gaps between my teeth after each IPR, barely noticeable and pwerchain close it within one or 2 weeks. She did IPR on my teeth gradually, so the gap is not visible.

Funny I was reading this post and then noticed that one of our patients had posted a review for us, talking about IPR. It may make you feel a bit better reading what "Lisa" has to say about her experience with it. Good luck!

Thanks, that was helpful. I guess because my teeth are small-ish I was thinking they would end up being weirdly skinny, but it sounds like it will be pretty subtle. Thanks!
