Do you feel like...

#1 Post by avy »

you will never get your braces off? I feel like my mind has tricked me into thinking that I will now be like this forever. The flossing and swishing and eating and smiling and the way I look - I feel like this is now me and I will always have these things on my teeth. I kind of forget that they are straightening my teeth and that I will have a great smile in less than 9 months - its more like they are part of me now. Does anyone else feel this way?

Me! Me! I've had my braces for over a year. I hopefully have until October (minimum mentioned sentence). I'm terrified to ask if he thinks they'll come off by then because I'm afraid he'll say no. :-) Plus I'm sure he gets driven crazy with that question. I'm also pregnant and due August 4....I wish the braces would come off before then but I know that's not gonna happen...

My treatment time got lengthened, and in one of the last few visits, my ortho jokingly said: 'don't worry, we'll have them off before 2015!'

But on a more serious note, he said they'd be off 2nd half of this year and i started to get the itch of wanting them off a few months back, so i really do hope it's not much longer :)

A few months ago I mentioned to my ortho assistant that I'd come to terms with the fact I'd have braces for the rest of my life. The orthodontist overheard me and said, "Yes, we often bury our patients with braces on their teeth."

So yes, I did feel that way for a long time.

I've only had mine a month and a half, but I'm desperate to get them off already! Not because it's annoying or painful (well, ok it is a bit) but because I've got so much change in my life (quitting work, moving house, going back to uni...) that I want everything to be finished NOW

Also I still don't know what my final treatment plan is, so I don't know where the goalposts are! If the braces can widen my palate enough on their own I won't need upper jaw surgery, but if they can't, then I will need 6 months added on to my treatment for palate expansion. Boooo. I just want to know!

Impatient? Moi?

On the plus side I do feel like my braces are part of my mouth now. Today I got my hair cut for the first time since January and my hairdresser was like "What's different? Something is different?!" and I was "no, nothing different... Oh! My braces!".
