Creating space

#1 Post by Boohill »

I understand powerchains are used to close gaps. I have crowding on my lower teeth and I now have a coil spring to create space. It skips one tooth and that tooth is no longer attached to the archwire. No lig. (does that make sense?) Im sure when I go back she is going to attach it back in the wire to straighten the tooth out. It has twisted more since the spring was put in.
What other appliances are used to create space? Just wondering what I have to look forward to. I like to get new hardware because it means that it is put there to do something which means I'll see movement.

I'm not sure the answer to your question, but I also have "springs" on my braces. I was told they are used to make room for my crowded teeth but not sure how they do that.

I'm getting my first adjustment next week and that's on the list of things to ask the ortho.

Springs can be used, among other things, to either push teeth together or move them apart. I had a spring between two teeth early in my treatment. You can see a comparison of when it was placed compared to the day before it was removed (six weeks later) here:

Good luck!

Thanks lenoreo
Yep that's the spring that I have. That is one strong sucka. When I got mine, by the next morning when I woke up, my teeth had moved so much. Especially the tooth in between that wasn't braced. Things are completely shifting. Its been two weeks with it. I wonder what will be next....

When the tooth without the spring was finally bonded to a bracket, the next day, I heard this loud popping noise. I thought my bracket popped off, but it turns out it was just the tooth moving a few mms to the left at one time. :D
