Poky wires are a drag. Putting wax all the way back there is a pain too, not to mention the return trip to the ortho to get it trimmed. I sympathize completely. I always had a love/hate relationship with poky wires. Movement=good. Poky wire=not so good.
pokey wires are no fun that is for sure. they hurt and do a nice job at cutting up your cheecks back there. I always seem to get really bad sores more so when I have a pokey wire. I think its because there a wire back there poking so it just add to help create more soares! oy yes I to have a love hate relationship with pokey wires, i think everyone who has experienced a pokey wire probably feels the same way!!! Putting wax all the way back there can be a pain but if you can get wax back there to stay then all the better! Its really hard to get wax to stay on a pokey wire. salt water rinse does a good job at helping prevent some sores but you have to do it pretty consistently. I had a pokey wire a few weeks ago and well the soarness has gone away from all the sores I'm still trying to get rid of the actual cankers now but I'm one step closer to getting rid of them. My only hope is to try to get rid of as many sores before my surgery in a few weeks as I think that wouldn't be fun to have sores!!!

Are you in powerchains? My ortho assit. told me that I get pokey wires all the time because my powerchains close my gaps which makes the wires too long.
Id go to the ortho and get it clipped if I were you. The wax is a drag!
I never have a pokey wire right when i get them changed, but as my bottom teeth move after each appointment, it's inevitable that my bottom teeth, left side, sprout a pokey wire. i can definitely empathize.
I have a pokey wire right now also. However, I will just deal with it as I have an appointment on Tuesday.....but yes I have such a love hate relationship with them also. Love them because they show movement....Hate them from the pain they cause!
I also have a pokey wire at the moment. It is on the molar band all the way at the back of my mouth where there is no room for a pokey wire.... Luckily the wax is holding but I will need to call the ortho tomorrow to see about getting it clipped. I definitely sympathize here.
