yesterday i had an adjustment. i was fine after, but it seemed like by the time 10pm came, my bite was completely different. my right side is fine, but the left is open. i can't bite down no matter how hard i try! granted my left side has been somewhat open and screwed up for a while now, but i was always able to bite down and make my bite look somewhat normal. now, my mouth looks crooked. also i've been wearing super heavy 4mm elastics on the left side for quite a few months , but my ortho told me to stop wearing them for now. i'm not sure why exactly. i can't help but think that not wearing them this whole month would just be a bad thing.
anyway, someone please tell me this is completely normal and things will be fine very soon
i can not bite down!

This sounds like it's normal - your bite can definitely get worse before it gets better. After one adjustment, one side of my bite also became completely non-functional. My orthodontist closed it with elastics on that side and it's been fine since. I'm sure at your next adjustment your orthodontist will start getting it straightened.

Yes my bite also opened up on the sides and was like that for several months. It's quite annoying to not be able to bite down properly, but very normal that the bite gets worse so that other things can get in line, and then usually the bite is the last thing they perfect. I'm also wearing the super heavy 4mm elastics to close my bite but my ortho has changed configurations of how I wear them and such. I'm not sure why you were told to stop wearing them completely but perhaps they were hindering another part of your treatment. Maybe your ortho needs to be able to get something else in line first and then will be able to start closing the bite again? You could always ask your ortho what the plan is. I know a few times I was so taken aback with what my ortho did at an adjustment that I just completely forgot to ask any questions, then I had to wait a whole month or so until my next adjustment to ask. But I'm sure your ortho knows what (s)he is doing and had a good reason to tell you to stop wearing the elastics for now, but if you are really concerned you could just give a quick call. I would maybe just say you were calling to make sure you understood the directions your ortho gave and that you are, in fact, supposed to stop wearing the elastics and then when they confirm this, you could throw in your real question which is the why part.
Good luck!
