Grit my teeth during sleep...

#1 Post by larma »

I find myself waking up after gritting my teeth extremely hard....can this be bad for my braces?

Should I be wearing a guard? I never have before, but I find I do it a lot more now with braces. Especially since my bite is off I have one tooth in particular that is getting the worst of it!

TIA!

I agree....

Also wanted to add that I was a night grinder, did it for the first four months(or so) in braces but lately, in the last 3 months, I haven't been grinding as much or at all. I don't know if it has to do with my teeth shifting but it definitely has slowed down/stopped. I don't know if you've had your braces for long but it may get better(as mine did)but, like Meryaten said, I'd still ask at your next appt.(or sooner if you're more comfortable with that).

I did asked my ortho at my second bonding appt.(had my uppers on on my first, lowers on on my second)about grinding because I was getting a molar build up and I was concerned that I'd grind it off at night, and my ortho said that I may see an improvement with the grinding as my teeth shift and, lucky for me, I did!! :D Good luck...keep us posted!!
Keep smilin'! :)

I have found myself grinding my teeth too lately. I have never grinded until right now. I am wondering if it is just my teeth aching overnight and I'm grinding as a response to that??

I'm only 2 months into treatment and have noticed myself waking up in the middle of the night grinding, or at least clenching, my teeth over the past month. I mentioned it to my ortho last week at my second adjustment and he said don't worry it should go away once my teeth move more. Hope he's right. I can't help but feel that I'm ruining my back teeth.

Hi there yes I also find myself not grinding my teeth, but clenching them tightly, its like I think anyways because my teeth have always been crooked, and now not sooo much, they really seem to want to like to touch one another now!!!

I think I do the same thing cause my teeth hurt every morning....I am on my second set of molar build ups and I might need to go in for a third before my next adjustment. although one molar is already out of crossbite and I only have one more mlar to go. I just hope it stops before my treatment is done.
