My poor lips....

#1 Post by kiavic »

and inner jaw....

Hello All,

It has been roughly 12 hours since I was braced and oh my stars.... my poor lips are in so much pain. I was fine until 3 or 4 hours ago then I don't know what happened, maybe the Aleve wore off. Anyway, I tried to suck it up and just live with the pain, so I popped more Aleve, grabbed some ice cream (which I barely touched because I hurt so much) and parked on the couch. That didn't work, so I tried the wax on the worst spots and that worked for a few minutes. But then, with the worst spots taken care of I began to feel the rest of my mouth.

At this point, I have completely covered all of my brackets with wax. My question is, Am I prolonging the inevitable by using so much wax? Will my inner lips still "toughen up" so that I will be able to talk without feeling like I'm slicing my lips to ribbons?

My advice would be to use warm water and salt to rinse your mouth and keep using the wax on the brackets as well as over the counter pain relievers. I did stop using wax and my cheeks did tougen up but they still hurt from time to time so I use the warm water and salt ri.ses which help. Hope you feel better and it does get better trust me.

Meryatens completly right as always  ! Use wax and lots of it, i dread to think how much of it i swallowed over the last 2 and half years! It really will help and the move will still toughen up.

I suffered badly from ulcers and sores on and off throughout my treatment and at times also had strips of wax on most of my teeth! Keep drinking especially before bed as this really helps, lip balms a must and remember it really will get better.

I was one of the people who couldn't get wax to stay on for the life of me. I ended up just giving up and going without. I've got tons of little envelopes of wax sitting around my house that I haven't used.

wax wax wax, its definetly your friend and it definetly helps sooth some of the pain, I know when i first got my braces i was constantly using wax cuz it worked so well.

for sores in the mouth, like it was stated about salt/warm water mixture is great!! Definetly helps sooth the pain from the sores and also cleans and disinfects your mouth at the same time!!! so its great for several things at the same time. I also use blistex canker sore stuff. for sores on my lips i use the blistex lip balm (blue mini container!!!)

Hang in There!!!!!!! I'm sure it will get better for ya soon!!!!!! keep us updated!!!

my mouth still hurts, too. the wax stinks, i cant get it too work right without spitting it out. i am just letting it tear me apart to toughen me up. my mouth is really dry all the time too, i am up to about a gallon of water a day and i still seem to have dry mouth.

Use wax as needed DURING THE DAYTIME ONLY! Don't use it at night because that helps to toughen up the inner mouth. Take it off after you eat, brush, and then reapply as needed.

If you have sores, try using Oragel.

I was a tough cookie and didn't use wax very much, despite my sores. I knew that I had to get used to the brackets... so I just wore it when my lips were physically snagging or I had to work (lots and lots of talking). I never wore it at night. I was fine within about a week or until my teeth started moving a bit more.

Now, I just wear it on rare occassions. I usually wear it following an adjustment or if something is poking me and I can't get in to have it sanded. When my teeth suddenly decide to shift overnight, sometimes wax is needed then too.

I used wax constantly from day 2-15 or so. Then after about a month my teeth would shift and I'd need to use it again. Recently my 2nd molars were braced and those were waxed for a few days. My upper 2nd molars sway out a ways so those are always rubbing on my cheeks. For some reason though my right upper that doesn't stick out as much needs wax every other day. I think its because I sleep on my right side more so my face is pressed into the pillow. *shrugs* :? Sometimes I can't figure out at all why somethings hurt more than others. Its like the Twilight Zone. :Questions:
