Braces on for 8 days, loose teeth normal?

#1 Post by larma »

I got my braces put on last wednesday. I can still barely chew anything because I feel like every tooth is super loose. Is this normal? Does it get better?

TIA! :D

thanks...how long would you say before they stop feeling so loose? It is creepy I can feel each tooth move when I dry my face after brushing my teeth.

I felt like I was the only one who felt like this. I asked a neighbor if she felt like this (she is like 14) and she said no, not at all. I figured maybe the younger mouth healed faster. I never remember any of my friends complaining of these issues when they got their braces on or tightened when I was in jr high or high school. They were right back to eating their chips, popcorn or other hard food right after!

Wiggly teeth are normal AND creepy! I've had teeth get wiggly for a week or two, and then others that seem to stay wiggly for months! I guess it depends on how much movement is expected of them(?).

But I've noticed that wiggly teeth follow some adjustments, but not all of them. It seems to be unpredictable as far as I can tell.

I didn't have loose teeth, but I did have a lot of problems chewing for at least a week. That tapered off quickly for about a week after that, and I was okay after about 2 weeks - which was good, because my ortho said it may take 1-2 months before my back teeth would meet again. It was acutally less than 3 weeks.

I had ALOT of loose teeth... since my B-day... but things will be fine some seemed to "chill" out and settle in "if" only for a bit.. so pay it no mind just be careful as to what you eat because trust me.. if you overdue it you will feel it.. because after all, a tooth needs to loosen up to move. so be at peace all is well ( wow lol that sounded like a cheap chinese proverb  )

My teeth are still loose and I have had them for over 9 months! You learn to eat and your teeth firm up and then loosen up...

Oh yeah, very normal. I have a tooth thats been so loose its crazy. I bet if it was not cemented to the archwire, it would fall out.

According to my orthodontist, this one particular tooth will be loose for a while.

I trust him, so I'm just going with the flow.

I also have a loose tooth and if I put a bit of pressure on it (a tiny bit) I hear a clicking noise like bones clicking!! A bit scary but I guess it is normal!? It is proving difficult to brush it though because it is very painful!!

This is very normal and can be very scary the first time it happens. It may or may not happen again during the rest of your treatment. You might also hear and feel a clicking sound, that is also normal.

At the beginning they all felt wobbly and sensitive.

Im now 5 weeks in and it's only one or two that wobble... different ones are wobbly on different days...!

That's good to know because eating is my main problem right now.

I just got my braces yesterday morning so they're only 36 hours old but eating is so ridiculious! I've only eaten soft foods but I think a big part of it (for me) is psychological.....I'm afraid I'm going to knock the brackets or the wires off. It's just frustrating to eat so I'm glad to hear that you got better with eating after a few weeks. That gives me some hope!

don't worry. Loose teeth are normal. They'll be loose and make the strange click sounds occasionally. In time the teeth will settle. You notice the looseness more in the beginning. Give it some weeks and you won't give it a thought. Take my word for it!
