Power chains not working - any alternatives?

#1 Post by glenh »

Hi all,

I've got power chains top and bottom and although they've worked really well in most cases I still have two teeth that aren't budging - they are my upper and lower first premolars on the same side of my mouth - question is if the power chains don't work what other options are there?

At my last Otho visit he said that they weren't moving and that might be it for them! He would see how it was at the next visit...

Thanks for any advice

The ortho could step up the ante by adding a posted wire and tie backs. I had some stubborn spaces on bottom after having power chains for several months. The tie backs closed up the remaining gaps over night, they are like power chains on steroids and do not mess around! OWW! ;)

edit: Here is a pic of my lowers with the posted wire and tiebacks in place. The elastic tiebacks are clear so kind of hard to see:

Regardless, your ortho will have some tricks of his own to close up those gaps.

I've been wearing powerchains on my lowers for the last 4.5 months. I've definitely had some stubborn spaces to close. I just had an adjustment today and I got a zing string from 3-3 along with a powerchain from 6-6. At my last adjustment I had a lower zing string from 2-2 and before that, just my centrals we tied together. It totally does the trick!

Good luck!

Thanks for all the replies - I'm feeling a lot better after all that information, as you say I’m sure my Ortho knows what he’s doing.

Thanks again all
